Gutters are designed to gather and funnel water from your roof and away from your home. Clogged gutters can lead to damage to the foundation, roof, and basement.
NJ Home Maintenance Services recommends that most home owners have their gutters cleaned three times a year. Once in early spring, after the harsh winter weather has let up, to remove winter dirt and debris and to prepare the gutters for heavy spring rains. As always we inspect the gutters for damage caused by freezing and thawing over the long winter.
Then in late spring, once all the trees and plants have finished sprouting, to remove seeds, buds and other debris from gutters.
Finally, most importantly, in the fall before the freezing weather sets in to remove all leaves and debris so the gutters are ready for the winter snow and ice.
There are exceptions, especially for home owners who live in heavily wood areas. In those cases we recommend up to 5 cleanings per year.
Please sign up for one of our service plans for hassle free gutter cleaning and maintenance all year long!
NJ Home Maintenance Services gathers and bags all the leaves and larger debris we clean out. Then we flush the entire system with water to remove any tiny particles and to make sure all the gutters are working properly, unless there is no access to a homeowner’s water supply.
It depends on the size of your home or business but the typical gutter cleaning takes anywhere from a half hour to a hour. Unlike other gutter companies, we send out no more than 6 cleanings a day per truck vs the 13-15 sent out by the competition. This ensures quality work by NJ Home Maintenance Services.
No, many customers are not home when we perform our services. Although, payment is due upon completion of work. A credit card can be added to your account using the customer portal or by calling our office and speaking to one of our representatives. To do a thorough cleaning we recommend that an outdoor water source is turned on in order to hook up our hose to flush the gutters and downspouts and note any leaks and necessary repairs.
Yes, at NJ Home Maintenance Services we highly recommend the use of gutter guards and gutter screens. The truth is they work if properly installed and the correct ones are used depending on the foliage around your home. Why do other companies not recommend gutter guards? Well, it affects their bottom line. It cuts back the amount of gutter cleanings needed and therefore, gutter cleaning companies will not recommend gutter guards and gutter screens to homeowners. The only gutter guards we do not recommend is waterfall systems with no louvers.
Not always. This depends on a few factors such as, how steep your roof is, how many downspouts you have, and if adding a larger sized gutter will allow more snow to gather inside the gutter and rip it down quicker. Unfortunately, some gutter companies try to fool customers into purchasing 6 inch gutters which are more expensive but not always most effective. Please feel free to call us with any questions, even if you decide to move forward with a competitor. NJ Home Maintenance Services is always here to help answer any questions you may have.
Underground drains are pipes installed beneath the surface of your yard and are connected to your gutter system. They help funnel rainwater away from your home and foundation and to a proper drainage area instead of having the leaders/downspouts release water onto your yard at the base of your home, near your foundation.

Yes, we have an extremely knowledgeable carpenter, with over 35 years of experience, on staff who can repair Yankee gutters.
A rock pit or dry well is an underground structure where excess rainwater is funneled to, away from the home, where it dissipates into the ground and gets absorbed. A typical dry well or rock pit is filled with gravel or small rubble to resist collapsing and allow for maximum water absorption. There are also there options, such as pop-ups, depending on the slope of your property.
Ice dams usually form on the roof’s edge where the roof sticks out beyond the main building structure. The reason they form is because warm air leaks from the living area below and melts the snow and ice. The water then runs down to the roof’s colder edges where it refreezes creating ice dams and icicles.
Proper attic insulation, ventilated soffits, roof deicing cables and an attic fan can all help minimize ice dam formation.
Whenever you think your home or business needs a cleaning. It is sort of like a car wash for your home. No one wants a dirty car so why have a dirty home? Also if you are selling your property and would like to increase its curb appeal, power washing is a great option. To be honest, if you ask a realtor 9 out of 10 will tell you power washing is more effective than a kitchen remodel.
